The Helen Smith Marshall Collection on James Templeton McMillan, 1905-1988, .5 cubic feet, is a collection of records documenting the life of James Templeton McMillan compiled by his granddaughter, Helen Smith Marshall. The collection includes Ms. Marshall's recollections of time spent with her grandparents as a child, photographs of Mr. McMillan and his wife, as well as their home in Gainesville, Florida, typescripts of Mr. McMillan's account of his service in the Confederate Army and letters to his sister, historical information on Gainesville, Florida, and 1870 census data on the McMillan family. The collection also includes a piece of the McMillan family plaid and photographs of Mr. McMillan and his wife. The collection is arranged alphabetically.

James Templeton McMillan was born to Scottish immigrants in Beaufort, South Carolina on June 15, 1837. His family moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1855. McMillan's father opened a drugstore there. McMillan returned to South Carolina to enroll at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in 1859.
